Why You Shouldn’t Waste Your Time on iWriter – iWriter Review
iWriter is a platform made for writers and clients who are looking to hire writers. You can think of it as an UpWork platform – but just for writers.
Believe it or not, when I started writing content online, iWriter was the first place I made some money. It seemed like a great place to start since you can access orders from clients from all around the world.
And unlike UpWork, you don’t need to bid on work – yet just be quick enough to accept open orders before other writers. That’s probably one of the key features of this platform that intrigues other writers.
But it didn’t take me a long time to get disappointed in this platform and spot a big flaw. And in this iWriter review – I’ll be giving you more insight into the platform, sharing you more information, but also tell you my personal story and why I think that iWriter is a scam.

iWriter – The Good and The Bad
The Good
Even though iWriter can be a hit and miss for most writers – one good thing about it is its availability for new writers.
If you’re looking to make a transition and start writing content online and earn some money while doing it – iWriter allows you to start writing in no time and actually make some money online.
It’s fairly easy to use due to its simple interface as well – which is something I always notice.
There are also 4 different levels of writers so you can start without any previous experience at all – which is, again, great for new writers.
Other than just a couple of things, there is nothing good about iWriter to mention. However, there are drawbacks and plenty of bad things about iWriter – so even though this might seem like an ideal platform for a new writer – it might be better to look out for iWriter alternatives instead.
Therefore, let’s jump right into bad things.
The Bad
Pricing
The first thing you might notice is the pay. It’s true – writers on the iWriter platform don’t earn whole a lot. Actually, about 90% of writers are earning less than a minimum wage.
I know, this might seem like an ideal opportunity for someone who just wants to make some money on the side without taking it too seriously. But even in this case, you’re better off doing some other work online.
For example, as a writer who just starts out on the iWriter platform, you’ll start out as a Standard member. For a 500-word article, you will get only $3.30 USD.
How long would it take you to finish a 500-word article? Some people need 15 minutes, some people need 30 minutes, and yet some people need an hour. Would you be okay receiving $3.30 for an hour of your time? Best case scenario, you could be working really hard to make about $12 an hour (and we’re talking about serious writing skills in order to pull this off).
But if you think that this is the biggest issue – you’re wrong. You’ll find many more bad things in this iWriter review.
Clients
I should also mention that there are clients who just don’t go easy on writers and reject plenty of articles. If your article gets rejected – you won’t get paid for it and your ranking will be affected (it will be harder to progress in rank and reach higher-paying article orders).
On the bright side, you can see the percentage of rejected articles by a client – so you have to choose wisely. Therefore, you won’t only end up looking for articles on your desired topic but also whether the client is most likely going to approve or reject your article.
Unpaid Rejected Work
Once you send the article – clients have a full view of your article. They can not copy & paste it, but they can definitely screenshot it and type it out themselves in a word document.
What some clients do is make many orders – receive articles, screenshot them, reject them, and get free articles. You might think this is a really bad situation to find yourself in – but it gets even worse when you realize iWriter doesn’t even try to prevent this from happening (even though it’s all over the platform).
iWriter’s Ranking & Orders Manipulation
And lastly, the biggest red flag, the reason why I think iWriter is a scam is the rankings. When you make an account and you start out – you become a Standard member. You get access to Standard article orders which are the lowest paying orders.
Once your rank increases and you complete about 25 article orders – you can progress to Premium rank and have access to Premium orders which are paid a bit better.
Here’s the problem.
When you are a Starter member, you can still see the list of orders for any rank. When I was a Starter member, I couldn’t wait to progress to Premium rank to get the ability to accept better-paying orders. What you see as a Starter member is about 100’s of orders in Premium rank.
But when I achieved a Premium rank and I had the access to Premium orders – the reality sunk in. The reality was that iWriter was projecting “fake” orders to Standard members to motivate them to work hard.
Therefore, when you achieve a Premium rank, you don’t have as many orders (I only had about 5-10 orders available). Most of them were offered by shady clients who had a high reject rate.
When I asked iWriter about it – I usually got the copy & paste response without a direct answer to this issue.
How many articles do you think there are for Elite Plus writers? A couple of them on a monthly basis would be my guess.
iWriter Earnings
As mentioned earlier, iWriter has 4 ranks. These ranks are:
- Standard
- Premium
- Elite
- Elite Plus
As you start out, you’ll always start as a Standard member. Once you have 25 reviews and a rating of 4.1+ stars – you will become Premium member.
Elite rank requires you to have 30 reviews and 4.6+ rating while on the other hand, Elite Plus requires you to have 40 reviews with a 4.85 rating.
Elite plus can be a really promising way to earn money by writing since you can get $39 USD for a 500-word article – but you have to understand that it’s not really sustainable. 4.85 rating can easily be lost after 2 or 3 bad reviews from the clients.
And knowing that you’ll be writing dozens of articles on a monthly basis – it’s most likely something inevitable that’s going to happen.
Also, you can write plenty of content types. These include:
- Articles
- Article Re-Writes
- Blog Posts
- Press Releases
- eBooks
- Kindle Books
Final Opinion on iWriter
iWriter has been updated a couple of times since the last time I used it (which was a couple of years ago). In the meantime, iWriter has deleted my account due to “inactivity” which automatically happens after 6 months of inactivity. Therefore, you can lose all the money you’ve earned (if you didn’t withdraw it), any regular clients you’ve made, and your ranking.
Even though iWriter might seem like a simple & easy platform to get started – it’s actually not. In my opinion, you’d be better off creating your own portfolio or blog and writing for yourself. In the long run, you’d be able to make a lot more money.
I highly recommend doing your best to find at least one regular client off-platform who will give you at least twice the rate of iWriter’s pricing – and you’ll already be in the win.
It’s all about spending your time wisely in order to make money online.
If you decide to give the iWriter platform a try – I should warn you not to trust everything you see on there. (such as the “fake” orders iWriter platform displays and yet they aren’t available once you reach the desired ranking).
On the other hand, I’ve never tried ordering content on iWriter – but considering the rates and a simple two-step test to apply as a writer, you might not be happy with results.
Therefore, I highly recommend either learning affiliate marketing, creating your own blog, or freelancing your skills to achieve a sustainable online income where you won’t depend on the bent rules of a platform such as iWriter.
After I was disappointed by iWriter, the next platform I joined was Wealthy Affiliate which is a platform for learning with hundreds of thousands of members who are all about learning to make passive income online with a niche site or a blog.
